PARISH OF ST NICHOLAS' & ST SAVIOUR'S
We have an active Church Life which involves all ages. Please read on for information on our regular meetings and events.
Housegroups
There are several lively Housegroups meeting in Brockenhurst. They are viewed as an integral part of our Church Fellowship and provide wonderful opportunities for people to meet and get to know each other in an informal atmosphere. They are held at various times during the day and evening and we are sure that you will be able to find something to suit your needs. Contact the Church Office 01590 624584 in the first instance.
Family Breakfast Services and Cafe Church
Roughly four times a year a Family Breakfast is served in St Saviour's Church. Members of our congregation provide a tasty cooked or continental breakfast and it is served before the 9.30am service. These mornings are very successful creating a happy and relaxed atmosphere for all ages.
Cafe Church is held on the fourth Sunday of each month. Discussions take place in small groups over coffee. There is a theme for each morning with questions and ideas to think about and share with your group. These services offer a chance to consider God's word in a different way and are well attended.
All Age Worship Services
These services offer the chance to worship and praise God in a fun family-friendly way accompanied by our talented Music Group. They are usually held on the second Sunday of each month and are led by a team of committed members of the congregation.
The Mother's Union
The Mother's Union meets monthly and holds many fund-raising and social events, details of their meetings can be found on the Noticeboard in the Church Hall. They also run regular fun Church Services aimed at the under fives, (now known as "Little Flames") which are greatly enjoyed by all involved (and the children who attend)!
Music Group and Choir
We are always happy to have new members for either of these groups. If you want to praise God by singing or playing with others, please contact our Organist Co-ordinator Andrew Parrish via the Church Office on 01590 624584.
CAMEO (Come And Meet Each Other)
Coffee mornings are held every Thursday in the Church Hall. These mornings are very successful, offering an opportunity to meet and chat over Fairtrade coffee and lovely (often homemade) biscuits! Come along and join us between 10.15am and 12.00 noon. All profits are donated to charity, coming along to CAMEO is a great way to make friends with locals and meet visitors to our village.
Children and Young People
There are various Church Groups for Children and Young People of all ages - details can be found in the Youth Section on this website. Bright Sparks (with Sparklers for the tiny ones!), Pathfinders and Blaze are all active.
Busy Badgers Playgroup meet on Fridays in term time at the Church Hall. This lively group provides toys and fun for pre-school children and refreshments and companionship for their carers. Come along between 9.15am and 11.45 am and meet others with young children.
Wednesday Lunches
These weekly lunches for the elderly are held in the Church Hall at 12.30pm on Wednesdays. They provide a perfect opportunity for elderly residents of Brockenhurst to enjoy a superb home-cooked lunch and companionship. Transport to and from the lunches can be arranged. For more information telephone Lesley on 01590 612015.
Marriage and Baptism Preparation
Marriage Preparation courses are held each year and are friendly sessions where the bridal couples can meet and discuss various issues concerning married life. Each couple is invited to attend these informative and useful courses which are held in family homes.
Baptism preparation also takes place in an informal atmosphere and people are encouraged to discuss and consider the baptism process and what it will mean to be baptised. Again the first contact for any of the above is with the Church Office 01590 624584.
Pastoral Care (BROCKCARE)
We have a Pastoral Care Team for helping people to cope at difficult times. They can visit those who are sick, recently bereaved, elderly, lonely and/or housebound and also welcome those who are new to the Parish, we also run an annual " Holidays @ Home" event for the elderly. See more details on the Brockcare page of this website.Contact Sharon Dibden in the Church Office Tel 01590 624584
Alpha Courses
This year's course has been very successful. If you want to attend an Alpha course please call the Church Office for details of our next one.
We have two church buildings:
St Nicholas is a lovely prayerful place, reflecting the faith of our forefathers who have worshipped there since Saxon times. It is the oldest church in the Forest and is set in beautiful surroundings. Services there tend to be more formal, ministering on the whole to a more elderly congregation.
St Saviour's Church is in the centre of the village; built just over a hundred years ago, it has an excellent Church Hall which serves as an amenity for many people and accommodates our thriving Youth Groups - Spatklers, Bright Sparks, Pathfinders and Blaze. Many other activites are held here including Dance, Beavers, Brownies, Guides etc etc
