Baptism and Wedding Policy
We are glad that you are interested in a Church wedding or a baptism, sometimes called a christening, for your child. We believe that God has an important part to play in the great occasions of people’s lives.
We aim to always be available to those who live in Brockenhurst as we serve the local community.
Each parish has to determine how best to serve those from outside the parish who request baptisms and weddings. As a pretty country parish with beautiful churches and with many venues for receptions we cannot respond positively to every request that is made.
At the September 2007 Parochial Church Council meeting we confirmed the below Policy.
The Baptism and Marriage Policy for Our Parish.
The PCC of Brockenhurst confirm the below statements as policy for the parish until further notice.
Baptism
Baptisms should routinely take place at a main morning Service.
That Baptism preparation will seek to develop a relationship between new families and the church.
Baptism of children from outside the parish will only take place in exceptional circumstances.
Weddings
We aim to serve couples with strong links to the parish.
Those living outside the parish will be asked to worship regularly with us in order to join the electoral roll. To qualify for inclusion on the electoral roll you will have to have been baptised.
All couples will be expected to attend our marriage preparation.
Remarriage of those who have been divorced will only take place in exceptional circumstances, but we are generally happy to offer a dedication and blessing service after a civil marriage for people within the parish.
If you would like more details of how the above policy works out please contact the church office tel 01590 624584 who will be happy to send out our initial information letters or arrange for you to speak to the Vicar. |
