Volunteer Update 11

Update 11 to Volunteers – 29th May

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday, some further easing of lockdown begins on Monday 1st June. For many of us, the prospect of being able to spend time at last with loved ones, albeit outdoors and with strict social distancing in place, is wonderful.

For those with family who live at a distance, however, little will change in the short term. The elderly and vulnerable in theory could meet up with friends in a garden, but for most this is not practical without outside help.

Under the new regime which begins on Monday, might it be possible to invite someone into your garden for a cup of tea and a biscuit, or perhaps arrange to visit them in theirs for the same? This, of course, assumes there are no health issues for either party. So many have been starved of face-to-face contact for so long, and having spoken to quite a lot of folks – and to those who are keeping telephone contact with our elderly friends – I think in some cases, the effects of isolation are beginning to show. If you are shopping for someone and you feel that they are in need of more social contact than you can provide, please let us know and we will endeavour to ensure that one of our pastoral visitors makes contact with them.

Brockenhurst Businesses Update Version 11 – please see here for details.

Brockenhurst Care Cars – as life slowly moves towards ‘normality’ volunteers will be needed to drive people to medical appointments. If you would like to join the Care Car Team as an occasional  driver, please phone Sue Hendry (Coordinator) on 623543 for more details. You would need to have a DBS check (at no cost to you).

New Forest District Council – please note that the council will be reintroducing car parking charges from Monday 1 June in town and village car parks.

Basics Bank – Apparently there was ‘a record amount’ picked up from the Church porch this week! Many thanks to all who have contributed. Here is the list of ‘most needed’ items:

Tinned Meats e.g. mince, curry, hot dogs
Milk - UHT or powdered
Tinned baked beans

Rice pudding
Custard
Jams
Washing up liquid
Shampoo
Toothpaste

Thank you for your continued efforts in supporting others in our community.

Stay Alert!
