Friday 31st July - Consider

Haggai 1: 1-5 (NIV) Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.  You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”  This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.

One of the things bought to international attention through the Coronavirus pandemic was the huge and unequal distribution of resources in the world. Many people who had thought their future was secure found this was, sadly, not the case, whilst others barely had any financial impact at all on their daily life.

Lord God, you equip us with resources and provisions often far in excess of what we need. Help us to be vigilent to opportunities to help support others not so fortunate and be sensitive in the sharing of our wealth to places it can be best used.  Father help us regualrly to consider who's kingdom we are building - Yours or ours. Prayerfully show us where we can choose to place, sometimes sacrificially, our resources to build your Kingdom that will last into eternity, rather than always meet our own desires and dreams that will die with us.  Help us to consider the legacy we will leave and how far reaching that will be.  In your name we pray. Amen.
