Sunday 21st February – First Sunday of Lent

Collect
Almighty God,
whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness,
and was tempted as we are, yet without sin:
give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit;
and, as you know our weakness,
so may we know your power to save;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

 

Please pray for all our services that they may be filled with the light and life and love that Jesus brings.  We pray that all would feel welcomed and our worship worthy of God’s awesome name.

Please pray for the congregations of St Nicholas’ and St Saviour’s Church; and for the worship and understanding that takes place. 

Please pray and give thanks for the District Nurses and Health Visitors serving our community, particularly during this pandemic when many people are unable to leave their homes.  Pray that they may bring health and comfort to all they visit.

We pray for our link missionaries Steve and Catriona Bennett, and their daughters Hannah and Rachel. Steve works in the mission hospital at Gahini, Rwanda: he is a surgeon and Catriona an anaesthetist.

Pray for all who live in Setley.
 

Merciful God, we entrust to your tender care those who are ill or in pain,
knowing that whenever danger threatens
your everlasting arms are there to hold them safe.
Comfort and heal them, and restore them to health and strength;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
 

Mission of the Month: SAT-7. 
Pray for ‘Secrets of Life’ programme which reaches out to Farsi and Dari speaking people which includes Afghanistan and Afghan refugees in Iran, and is presented by an Afghan Pastor.  He is seeking to help Persian speaking people in their ‘personal, civic and spiritual lives, pray that he will have wisdom as he ‘guides and disciplines viewers’.
