Year Of The Bible Scripture Readings

As part of our Year of the Bible we are highlighting two readings each week.  During the year, these will combine to show the full story of the Bible - from creation to new creation.  This week’s readings are:

Genesis 27: 1 – 28:22                     Jacob and Esau compete

Genesis 32:1 – 33:20                      Jacob and Esau reconcile

Full details on this collection of readings is available on our website in the Year of the Bible section or https://www.brockenhurstchurch.com/yearofthebible/weekly-readings/

The video produced by The Bible Society will this week explore ‘Spirit and Community’.

Rwanda Lent Appeal 2021 – Covid Recovery and Pastor Training

Rwanda like nearly every country has been affected by the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic; strict lockdown conditions are in force and many are unable to earn a daily wage.  Local churches have set up foodbanks, but without income from regular church services, pastors themselves are facing severe hardship.  There is also still a priority that all Christian ministers have a university education, so please help us to provide bursaries for pastors to continue in ministry; and funds to support the community during this pandemic.  There are Lent Collection boxes and small envelopes in St Saviour's & St Nicholas’ porch, please help yourself.  Boxes and envelopes to be returned by Easter Sunday.

Journeying with Jesus this Lent

What might it mean to Love and Live and Serve with Jesus? How might a Rule (or Rhythm) of Life help us to grow and be more fruitful in our relationships with God, with each other, and with the communities we’re part of?

The sessions will be held on Zoom, led by the Revd Sally Dakin.

Take time to reflect on one of these short online retreats:

World Day of Prayer – Friday 5th March 2pm

(A women led, global, ecumenical movement formerly known as Women’s World Day of Prayer)

The World Day of Prayer Service, written by Christian women, is held on the first Friday of March each year in churches around the world. The service this year has the theme ‘Build on a Strong Foundation’ and has been written by the women of Vanuatu, (located in the South Pacific Ocean).

We are inviting people to join together ‘virtually’ via the link on the World Day of Prayer website (wwdp.org.uk).  Copies of the service sheet will be available for collection at St. Saviour’s from Sunday 28th February - please do take one and pray along with the on-line service.

Donations can be made via their website, wwdp.org.uk or for other options please see March edition of the Parish Magazine.

Brockcare – If you hear of anyone in the village who is sick, elderly, lonely or bereaved and who might welcome a visit from one of our Pastoral Visitors, please contact Nikki Cullingford in the Church Office on 624584.

A prayer for those affected by the current Coronavirus pandemic

Gracious God, give skill, sympathy and resilience to all who are caring for the sick, and your wisdom to those searching for a cure. Strengthen them with your Spirit, that through their work many will be restored to health; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Litter Pick for Easter Cross:  The Eco Church Team are collecting empty bottles and cans that have been litter picked off the Forest to build an Easter cross, as a reminder that Jesus Christ died for the redemption of the whole of creation, a creation that we continue to abuse and take for granted. Please join in and pick up any bottles and cans that you see on your walks and pop them in the green wheelie bin by the pedestrian gate on Burley Road at St Saviour’s.  NB only litter picked bottles and cans please, i.e. none from home!

Don’t forget to observe usual Covid precautions when collecting, e.g. wear gloves.

ECO Church Weekly tip – February’s theme is getting to grips with your bills

If you already have a full set of heating controls, turning down your room thermostat by just one degree can save around £80 a year. Jumpers are in this year!
